Ash Hollow is the original site of hospitality, refreshment and regeneration for visitors. This location from prehistoric times has been the resting spot for travelers. The stone tools, the pottery, confirm this fact. Many of those relics are here for you to see. The famous massacre happened just a few miles from this park. The Oregon Trail and the Mormon Trail came through this spot. The graves of those who could go no further evidence the harshness of the trek to a new land. Here was water, shelter, fuel. They stopped here to breathe the fresh open air, just as all of you should to recapture your roots. Pause and give thanks for all of those who have gone before you to leave an earth as beautiful as this.
