Ponca State Park:

 Every Saturday in December is "Christmas in the Woods" Get into the holiday spirit with seasonal educational activities, lighted hayrack rides, free cookies and hot cider, sledding hill, groomed cross-country ski trails (snow permitting), and the Creative Snow Building Contest

Creative Snow Building Contest, runs November 25th thru March 19th. To enter this contest, guests build snowmen, snow animals, and/or snow sculptures within Ponca State Park, then submit photos of their creations to [email protected].  Winners are chosen from the submitted photos on March 20th.  First place is a night stay in a 4-bedroom mini lodge.   

Around December 14th its the "Christmas Bird Count" This event coincides with the Audubon Society National Christmas Bird Count.  Birdwatchers of all ages are invited to compare notes and sighting reports.   

December 30th it's the 12th Annual "Winterfest" This outdoor family tradition features the National Championship Fruitcake Fling, seasonal activities, lighted hayrack rides and more.   

On January 1st its "1st Day Hike" Ring in the New Year with a hike in Ponca State Park’s winter wonderland.  Guests can participate in a guided hike or enjoy our 22 miles of trails at their leisure.  Check in at the Resource and Education Center for details on the condition of the trails.  After your hike enjoy a refreshment and cookie in the gift shop.

 February 9th-10th & 16th-17th its "Birds N Breakfast" This is a getaway package focused around the Great Backyard Bird Count and Valentine’s Day.  Receive a 30% discount on lodging and complimentary bottle of wine or cider.  Breakfast served Saturday followed by experts from the Loess Hills Audubon Society conducting bird tours & counts.
