National Travel and Tourism Week

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LINCOLN, Neb. – (May 5, 2025) – Visit Nebraska and its industry partners are celebrating National Travel & Tourism Week May 4-10. This week honors the vital role and the economic impact the travel industry plays in the nation's success.

In 2024, tourism was once again one of Nebraska's most important economic drivers:

  • Lodging tax revenue exceeded $8 million
  • 80% of out-of-state visitors stayed in paid accommodations
  • Tourism supported more than 42,000 jobs

Further, a recent study by Destinations International revealed that nearly 70% of people who relocated to other states were first attracted as tourists, which highlights a key link between the tourism industry and community development.

"2024 was another record-setting year for tourism in Nebraska," said Visit Nebraska executive director John Ricks. "We are continuing to foster an understanding of how visitation promotion supports communities and in turn continues to make our state a great place to visit, work and live."

As part of this week's festivities, Visit Nebraska will honor recipients with Outstanding Frontline Employee awards. These awards are dedicated to individuals who go above and beyond while interacting with travelers and locals. They strive to enhance visitors' experiences and demonstrate high levels of customer service and pride in their destination. All winners are nominated by local communities and tourism industry partners.

Tourism is key to the nation's economy as well, generating $2.9 trillion in output and supporting 15 million jobs. State and local tax revenue from the industry in turn supports essential services such as education, emergency response, public safety and more.

Established in 1983 by U.S. Travel Association National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) is an annual tradition to celebrate the U.S. travel community and travel’s essential role in stimulating economic growth, cultivating vibrant communities, creating quality job opportunities, inspiring new businesses and elevating the quality of life for Americans every day.
