War Axe State Recreation Area comprises nine acres of land and a 16 acre lake just off Interstate 80. The area offers boating, fishing and picnicking, as well as non-powered boating.
Only Primitive camping is offered at War Axe. The area has eight Primitive campsites as well as water and a modern restroom.
Camping at War Axe State Recreation Area is all first-come, first-served and campers register their nightly camping fees in a raised, locked box called an Iron Ranger.
