Connecting Nebraska and South Dakota

The Meridian Bridge in South Yankton was built in 1924 and connects Nebraska and South Dakota. It is a unique double-decker and as of November 2011, the upper and lower are now opened to bike traffic and foot traffic only. The walk across the bridge shows the grandness of the construction of the bridge.  Looking down the sides of the railing on the Meridian Bridge in South Yankton, Nebraska I noticed various kinds of padlocks on the railings. I went closer to investigate and saw various sizes, shapes, and inscriptions on the locks. The tradition is one puts their initials on the lock of your love. Lock it to the railing and then toss the key in the river. Today it is encouraged by the Parks Department to put the key in the trash nearby.
